GIGA Welcomes African Delegation to Discuss Overcoming Colonial Legacies and Strengthening Future Partnerships

On 10 October 2025, the GIGA Institute for African Affairs is set to host a distinguished delegation from across Africa. Dr. Julia Grauvogel will introduce the Institute for African Affairs, with Dr. Tevin Tafese holding a presentation entitled “Investment, Value Chains, and Economic Development.”

  • This discussion event is part of a delegation visit to Germany organised by the Goethe Institute’s International Visitors Programme on behalf of the Federal Foreign Office. The delegation, consisting of public intellectuals, journalists, academics, and activists, will explore pathways for overcoming colonial legacies and building genuine partnerships. The discussion is set to address critical themes in German and European Africa policy, including trade, investment, development cooperation, and Germany’s reckoning with its colonial past, while examining how various societal actors shape these relationships. By hosting this dialogue, the GIGA contributes to vital conversations about transforming historical relationships into equitable partnerships for the future.
