Heads of the GIGA Research Programmes (Re)Appointed

The following persons were appointed:

• Head of Research Programme “Accountability and Participation”: Dr. Thomas Richter

• Head of Research Programme “Peace and Security”: Dr. Christian von Soest

• Head of Research Programme “Globalisation and Development”: Prof. Dr. Jann Lay

• Head of Research Programme “Global Orders and Foreign Policies”: Dr. Miriam Prys-Hansen

Team GIGA especially thanks Prof. Dr. Mariana Llanos; in her time as Head of the GIGA Research Programme “Accountability and Participation” she played a vital role in shaping our collective research profile. We appreciate her collegiality and look forward to continuing to work with her in new roles. We also thank the three reappointed colleagues for their commitment over their previous term(s). Each one of the four research programme heads has been unique and essential to the remarkable jump in research excellence, impact, and internationalisation that the GIGA has made in the last seven years (as outlined in our Annual Report 2021).   

We welcome Dr. Thomas Richter into his new role as Head of the GIGA Research Programme “Accountability and Participation” and look forward to working with him. We are grateful to all four (re)appointed colleagues for their willingness to continue or newly take over this important task.
