The European External Action Service (EEAS) and the European Commission are working on the preparation of a policy document on the EU relations with Latin America and the Caribbean with the objective to set the EU vision and priorities for the relations between the two regions in the coming years. This document will take the form of a joint communication by the High Representative-vice-President and the Commission to the Council of the European Union and to the European Parliament. It is foreseen to be adopted and presented in September 2018.
One essential part of the preparation of the communication is the consultation with stakeholders in Europe and in the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean. The GIGA Berlin Office is pleased to organize the consultation workshop in Germany on behalf of the EEAS in Berlin. The meeting will be opened by Prof. Detlef Nolte, Director of the GIGA Institute for Latin American Studies, and by Ambassador Edita Hrdá, EEAS Managing Director for the Americas, who will introduce the main priorities of the EU policy in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The main objective of the workshop is to bring in the views and the voice of key stakeholders from civil society, business, foundations, think tanks and academia. Therefore, it is our pleasure to invite you to take active part in this event and to contribute with your oral and written comments or suggestions.
