GIGA Global Transitions Conference

GIGA Global Transitions Conference

  • The GIGA Global Transitions Conference brings together leading scholars, practitioners, and an interested audience to engage on some of the most pressing challenges of our times, and to propose innovative and feasible solutions.

Once a year, leading thinkers from around the globe are invited to join GIGA scholars for this dynamic interaction. We are delighted to have shared reflections with so many esteemed guests and look forward to future occasions.

The conference has worked on big thematic issues – previous years have focused on Weaponized Interdependence & Economic Statecraft; Forced Migration; Envisioning Peace & Transforming Conflict; and others. In 2020, the GTC has taken stock on the Global Order in disarray and saw the need for reform in many areas, possibilities for consolidation and cooperation, as well as new opportunities for a fundamental re-think on some of our priors on power, order, and governance.

Since its launch in 2015 the GTC has promoted analysis and debate on key problems the world faces today. GIGA’s flagship annual conference is curated by our President Prof. Amrita Narlikar.

External Intervention in the Age of Global Transitions

On 1-2 December 2016, leading international scholars and practitioners joined GIGA researchers in Hamburg, Germany, in addressing these issues. At the External Intervention in the Age of Global Transitions Conference, they discussed how interventions are conceptualised and assessed in different disciplines, and also diverse experiences in implementing interventions across the globe.
