This event provided ULACIT students with concepts and reflections on how the authoritarian drift in some Central American countries has undermined essential values of justice, political participation and equality, negatively affecting the fulfillment of the SDGs.

The chapter introduces unconstitutional presidential reelection, consecutive or unlimited, as a mode of autocratization. Direct or indirect autocratic tactics, according to whether or not constitutional revision is required, are discussed for Nicaragua and El Salvador.
