Should U.S. Foreign Policy Focus on Great-Power Competition?

GIGA President Prof. Dr. Amrita Narlikar is part of latest Foreign Affairs expert survey.

    Foreign Affairs published an expert survey on “Should U.S. Foreign Policy Focus on Great-Power Competition?” in mid-October 2020. The views of just under 80 world experts are represented on this matter that will change world politics for years to come. This is the second Foreign Affairs survey in which Prof. Narlikar is the only expert from Germany whose insights appear in the survey.

    “The liberal order—some principles of which the United States still upholds—faces two serious threats today. First, states have far greater possibility (more so than during the Cold War) to misuse economic integration by 'weaponizing' interdependence […]. The second threat is China’s rise as a ‘systemic rival’ and its signaling potential adversarial […]”, states Prof. Narlikar.
