    Where Is Iran’s Economy Headed?

    Atlantic Council Washington, DC: 10/02/2022

As Iran marks the 43rd anniversary of its Islamic Revolution, popular discontent with the country’s poor economic performance is rising. Even Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, recently complained about rampant inflation and the poor quality of domestic products. For decades, Iranian policymakers have strived to diversify away from oil, build resilience against sanctions and other external shocks, and to become the region’s largest economy. The Atlantic Council Future of Iran held a discussion about the extent to which those goals been achieved and Iran’s prospects for the future.
