Celebrating 65 years of diplomatic relations between Germany and Nigeria, Foreign Minister H.E. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar will deliver a keynote address on current and future relations between the two partners. He will then take questions from the audience. The Q&A session will be moderated by a representative of the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA).
Short biography
His Excellency Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, OON, is the 29th Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, appointed in August 2023 under President Ahmed Tinubu. A graduate of International Relations from the United States International University, San Diego, with a master’s degree in the same field from the University of Cambridge, he has built a distinguished career spanning the oil and gas sector, entrepreneurship, and politics. As a Federal legislator for Gamawa Federal Constituency (2007–2011), he served on key committees including Foreign Affairs, Petroleum (Upstream), Public Procurement, and Agriculture. Appointed Nigeria’s Ambassador to Germany in 2017, Tuggar fostered landmark diplomatic and economic collaborations, notably facilitating the repatriation of Benin artefacts, advancing the Siemens Power Project, and brokering major investment partnerships such as the NIRSAL–Petkus, SolarKiosk, and AfricaGrow Fund initiatives. Renowned for his innovation, diligence, and excellence, Tuggar continues to apply his extensive international experience toward strengthening Nigeria’s global standing and development.
