Student Assistant Positions (x3) to Support Research Project “COVID-19 and Executive Personalization in Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, Latin America and the MENA Region”


  • The GIGA seeks to hire

    up to three Student Assistants (m/f/d)

    to support the research project “COVID-19 and Executive Personalization in Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, Latin America and the MENA Region” funded by the DFG. Working time for each position will be 10 hours per week, starting as soon as possible for 6 months with the possibility of contract extension. Student Assistants will be required to be physically present in Hamburg. Currently, the remuneration is gross €12,41 per hour.

    Tasks:

    • Data collection and coding of international and national news articles.

    • Literature search and management using Zotero.

    General requirements for all Student Assistants:

    • Very good proficiency in English.

    • Excellent analytical and comparative skills.

    • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work independently.

    • Enrolment as a student of political science, sociology, area studies or related social science discipline at a German university (if BA; 3rd semester or higher starting in April 2024), preferably in Hamburg or its vicinity.

    In addition one of the following specific requirements apply:

    • Experience in researching political and/or public health topics in Sub-Saharan Africa and very good proficiency in French.

    • Experience in researching political and/or public health topics in Latin America and very good proficiency in Spanish.

    • Experience in researching political and/or public health topics in the Middle East and North Africa and very good proficiency in Arabic.

    Desired requirements for all Student Assistants:

    • Experience with the collection of press data.

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, especially Word and Excel.

    • MA students are particularly welcome to apply.
