In this work package, we explore the employment effects of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Africa and investment promotion measures. The identified knowledge gaps range from basic facts on FDI in Africa to robust evidence on its effects on local employment and the effects of investment promotion measures on investment decisions. Based on an FDI project database, we examine trends in FDI in Africa and analyse employment effects. In addition, a survey of German companies with economic relations in African markets was conducted in 2021/2022. Apart from planned and implemented investment projects, important topics of the survey were the needs of companies in the area of investment promotion, the utilisation of investment promotion offers, and the influence of these promotion measures on the realisation and design of investment projects.
