Artificial Intelligence and the Freedom of Expression in India

Chapter in Edited Volume | 2025

  • Abstract

This chapter examines Artificial Intelligence legal measures, executive policies, and advisories related to six critical areas of expressive rights: defamation, explicit content, hate speech, political content, copyright, and privacy. It then compares these to global AI regulations and concludes with how India's case illustrates the challenges and opportunities of linking national priorities of economic growth and innovation with a human rights baseline for transnational AI regulation.
