The GIGA is again a scientific partner of the YES! – Young Economic Summit

In the coming year, school students will once again have the opportunity to develop solutions to global economic, ecological, and social problems at the YES! – Young Economic Summit. The GIGA continues to be a scientific partner of the initiative.

In the school competition YES! – Young Economic Summit, students will once again have the opportunity in 2022 to discuss the global economic, ecological, and social challenges of our time and to develop proposed solutions. The event offers young people a platform to develop their own ideas together with scientists from renowned research institutes throughout Germany and to take responsibility as the voice of the next generation. The topics addressed are taken from real research. The GIGA is participating in the Region North, tackling the question of the sustainable design of global food. The school team that chooses this topic will work together with GIGA researchers Dr. Anette Ruml and Dr. Lisa Hoffmann in scrutinising the impact of certifications and seals of approval, alongside discussing the pros and cons of legal regulations (“Supply Chain Act”) or voluntary standards. In tandem, they will look for further solutions to making global food supplies more sustainable and thus fit for the future. School teams can register for YES! and select a topic for consideration until around mid-December 2021. The winning team will be given the chance to put its proposed solution on the political agenda and win supporters from politics and business for its new vision. YES! – Young Economic Summit is a joint project of the ZBW – Leibniz Information Centre for Economics and the Joachim Herz Foundation under the patronage of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.
