“Leibniz in the Bundestag”: GIGA Scientists Advise Members of Parliament on Foreign Policy Issues

“Leibniz in the Bundestag” is a programme whereby scientists from the Leibniz Association talk to members of the German parliament. In 2022, GIGA researchers will offer consultations on current foreign policy issues from 31 May to 1 June.

The topics addressed speak to all of the GIGA’s research foci and regions of investigation. Politicians can discuss, among other things, the crisis of Latin American democracies, power shifts in the Indo-Pacific, the war in Yemen’s development, or the digitalisation of African countries’ economies with our experts. Since 2008, the Leibniz Association has been using the dialogue format to bring scientists together with members of all parliamentary groups in the German Bundestag for one-on-one discussions.

The GIGA’s extensive range of policy advice includes an exchange with members of the Bundestag once a year as part of “Leibniz in the Bundestag.” In 2021, 25 of our scientists will offer their expertise to Germany’s politicians in an advisory capacity.
