GIGA Journals with Strong Upwards Trend in Impact Factors
The recently published “Impact Factors 2024” by the specialist company Clarivate Analytics once again demonstrate the academic excellence of the GIGA Journal Family. The Journal of Politics in Latin America (JPLA) and Africa Spectrum in particular were able to further increase their visibility and relevance in the international research landscape.
The three journals listed in the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) and the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) achieved the following impact factors for the year 2024:
Journal of Politics in Latin America, indexed in the ESCI: impact factor of 2.1 (previous year: 1.6). The journal improved significantly in the “Political Science” category to rank 92 out of 322 (previous year: rank 126 out of 318).
Africa Spectrum, indexed in the SSCI: impact factor of 2.2 (previous year: 1.9). The journal climbed to rank 9 out of 182 in the “Area Studies” category (previous year: 15 of 176).
Journal of Current Southeast Asian Affairs, indexed in the SSCI: impact factor of 1.7. The journal thus remains stable at a high level and is ranked 19th out of 182 (previous year: 7th out of 176) in the “Area Studies” category.
The impact factor measures the average number of times a journal's articles are cited in other scientific publications per year. It is an important indicator of the visibility and relevance of scientific journals.
GIGA President Prof. Dr. Sabine Kurtenbach acknowledges the achievements of the respective editorial teams: “The current Impact Factors are a great success.
