China is Germany's most important trading partner; at the same time, there is growing concern both in Brussels and in Germany that Beijing is using its economic power to influence political developments in Europe. For China, on the other hand, Germany is number one in Europe, and Hamburg with its port is particularly important for economic exchange between the two countries.

On 14 November 2019 GIGA President Amrita Narlikar, Mikko Huotari of the Mercator Institute for China Studies, Yang Yao of the China Center for Economic Research, and Changhua Wu of the Future Innovation Center in Beijing discussed just how much disagreement German–Chinese relations can tolerate.

Moderators: Andreas Cichowicz (NDR) and Yang Rui (CGTN)

The event was recorded by NDR. The recording can be found here.
