In this training, participants will learn foundational concepts of culture and the dynamics that influence human interaction and communication. Participants gain insights into general challenges in cross-cultural communication and into approaches to minimise and leverage misunderstanding. In detail, the training looks into the following issues:

The concept of culture
Culture and communication
Exploring the basics of culture
The matter of meaning in social contexts
Cultural and contextual influences on communication and cross-cultural interactions
Contextual factors (e.g. stereotypes, prejudices, perception)
Cultural factors
Cultural identity (sense of belonging)
Leveraging cultural differences
Cultural self-awareness
Changing perspectices

The course takes place online on 2-3 November 2021, on the first day from 9am to 3:30pm and on the second day from 9am to 12pm.
About the Lecturer
Yeliz Yildirim-Krannig is professor for intercultural business communication at HAW Hamburg. In her research she focuses on intercultural encounters in migration societies. She gives intercultural trainings since 2007 in various settings, for example Interculturally competent action in heterogeneous societies (WBS Training AG), Rethinking Interculturality? Perspective Reflexivity in the Context of Immigration in Germany (Dachverband Deutsches Studierendenwerk Berlin), Understanding cultural interactions. Everyday Indo-German intercultural interactions (IISC Bangalor), Intercultural Communication (LEG Thüringen).
