  • In this GIGA session we refer to our two current research projects on “Mapping and Strengthening Civil Society Response to Disinformation” and on “Strengthening Civil Society Against the Weaponization of Anti-Fake News Laws” with a focus on six countries in South and Southeast Asia. We will talk on sensitivity training in data collection, processing and publication, and on assessing risks while conducting interviews and hosting workshops in the regions.

    The GIGA Session will take place hybrid on 25 May 2023 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. Further information will be provided to the participants after successful registration.  

    About the lecturers

    Sangeeta Mahapatra is Research Fellow at the GIGA Institute for Asian Studies. Her research areas include digital political communications and participation, digital surveillance and privacy, and disinformation and online radicalisation. Andreas Ufen is a Senior Research Fellow at the GIGA Institute for Asian Studies and Spokesperson of the Research Team "Democratic Institutions". His research interests focus on political parties, populism, political Islam, and democratization in Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia and Malaysia.
