Rechtsruck in Chile: Beginn einer neuen politischen Ära?

  • Am 7. Januar dieses Jahres setzte sich in Chile der Herausforderer der Rechten, Sebastián Piñera, bei einer Stichwahl im Rennen um die Präsidentschaft gegen den Vertreter der bisher regierenden Mitt eLinksKoalition, Eduardo Frei, durch. Die Wahl des konservativen Unternehmers markiert für viele Beobachter den Beginn einer neuen politischen Ära. Seit mehr als 50 Jahren gab es in Chile keine demokratische Regierung der Rechten mehr und – entscheidender noch – die weitere Entwicklung des Mitt eLinksBündnisses ist ungewiss.

    Analyse Obwohl Chiles neuer Präsident die Leitlinien der vorigen Regierungen nicht ändern wird, kommt sein Wahlerfolg einer großen Wende für das Land gleich:

    • Die Wahl Piñeras steht für die Konsolidierung einer liberalen Rechten.

    • Das Verhältnis der neuen Regierung zu Pinochets Diktatur und zu den Interessen des Unternehmertums kann zu innergesellschaft lichen Konfl ikten führen.

    • Es besteht das Risiko, dass sich die Beziehungen zu den linken Regierungen Lateinamerikas verschlechtern werden.

    • Wenngleich die ökonomischen Prognosen positiv sind, ist doch ungewiss, ob die neue Regierung ihre Wahlversprechen einhalten kann.
