GIGA Information Centre’s collection now in online catalogue of Hamburg’s libraries
The search engine of the Hamburg State and University Library, “beluga”, has added the holdings of the GIGA Information Centre to its catalogue. The website provides an overview of e-books, articles, journals, and other media that the GIGA makes available.
Beluga is operated by the State and University Library of Hamburg (SUB Hamburg) and, thanks to this search engine, over nine million entries across 13 Hamburg libraries can be explored. The website now also includes the holdings of the GIGA Information Centre. Thus beluga users can also find out which media the GIGA offers, material which can be borrowed or download on site. This increased visibility enables a new circle of scientists, students, and the interested public to access the research publications and findings of the GIGA.
The GIGA Information Centre is the largest non-university information centre for Area Studies and Comparative Area Studies in Germany. The four regional specialist libraries collect literature on economic, political, and social developments in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. The holdings include around 200,000 books and 11,000 licensed online journals, as well as more than 120,000 electronic documents.
