Good Practice! The GIGA signs the “Diversity Charter”

The GIGA recognises that the diversity of its employees, with their different talents and skillsets, offers advantages and opportunities in finding creative solutions. With the “Diversity Charter,” this potential is now also publicly acknowledged too.

Diversity and equal opportunities are central components of the GIGA’s self-image as an independent, internationally oriented institution with a global approach to scholarship. Signing the “Diversity Charter” underscores the Institute’s goal of creating an appreciative and prejudice-free working environment by recognising and promoting the diverse potential of its team members. Diversity is understood as a holistic approach that takes into account the numerous dimensions – such as different origins, religions, orientations, genders, age groups, handicaps, as well as other factors – shaping the identity of the GIGA team. We create a climate of mutual respect and trust.

GIGA President Prof. Amrita Narlikar is convinced that: “Lived diversity, and appreciation of this diversity, have a vital and positive impact on our Institute and on society in Germany.”

The “Diversity Charter” is a fundamental commitment to the economic and social benefits of diversity, and to tolerance, fairness, and appreciation in the world of work and society. The Federal Government Commissioner for Migration, Refugees and Integration, Minister of State Annette Widmann-Mauz, supports the initiative. German Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel is patron of the Charter.

Diversity and Equal Opportunities

Diversity and equal opportunities are a central part of the GIGA's self-image as an independent, internationally oriented institution with a global approach to scholarship. With a clear commitment to diversity, seen as a cross-sectoral issue, we aim at promoting and valuing diversity at the institute and using the resulting potential fully.
