The GIGA seeks to hire a
Student Assistant (m/f/d)
to support the research project “Justifying Repression in Authoritarian Regimes of the Arab World: Official Framing and Target Audiences” funded by DFG for up to 10 hours per week, starting as soon as possible until 31 October 2024. Currently, the remuneration is gross €12.41 per hour.
The student assistant needs to reside in Germany. Working from home will be possible, although he or she will be required to be physically present in Hamburg occasionally.
Tasks:
Assisting the principal investigator in project-related activities
Organizing a project workshop in Tunis
Researching sources related to the 2011 protests in North Africa
Literature management
General requirements:
Proficiency in English and either French or Arabic
Currently enrolled student with at least two semesters of BA studies in political science, sociology, or area studies (MA students are particularly welcome to apply)
Knowledge of comparative politics and/or Middle East and North African politics
Excellent analytical and organizational skills
Desired requirements:
Experience in literature software (Zotero)
Local knowledge of the Middle East and North Africa, especially Tunisia
Knowledge of both French and Arabic will be an asset
