The GIGA China Series aims to foster a community of knowledge seekers interested in unravelling the complexities of China’s politics, society, and global impact. Speakers will present their current research findings on today’s China, ranging from domestic governance and societal trends to geopolitics and international relations.

The Franco-German Observatory invites key actors from the Indo-Pacific to present their vision of the region, how they conceive of it geo-strategically and the place of China, the US, and Europe within this framework. We look forward to debating questions of economic interdependence and independence, of trade and investment, and the expectations the countries of the Indo-Pacific might have towards the “West” in general, and Europe, in particular.

The Digital Development Dialogue (3D) seminar is a monthly 45-minute online forum for policy and research exchange. Two speakers – one researcher and one practitioner – touch upon key topics in development policy with the goal of stimulating a meaningful dialogue across the theory & practice divide.

Dieser GIGA Talk widmet sich einem Konflikt, dessen Auswirkungen auf die deutsche Wirtschaft unmittelbar spürbar sind.

In diesem GIGA Forum setzen sich Expert:innen mit dem allgegenwärtigen Problem der geschlechtsspezifischen Gewalt auseinander. The Leibniz Environment and Development Symposium (LEADS) aims to foster interdisciplinary exchange on global societal. This year’s LEADS will be hosted by the Economic Policy Lab “Climate Change, Development and Migration” in Essen on 27–28 November 2023.

This second MIASA policy conference (on 21–22 November 2023) is meant to provide a space for exchange between researchers, policymakers, development practitioners, and other stakeholders in development to present and discuss the most recent policy-relevant research findings on Africa’s economic development, its present patterns and future.

Infectious diseases such as syphilis are highly treatable. But if ignored, they can have devastating consequences, as in the dramatic rise of congenital syphilis among newborns at the Colombia-Venezuela border. But how can health services best reach and treat populations at risk, including undocumented migrants? A multidisciplinary pilot project yields promising results that could help save lives.
