1 / 10

  • The GIGA is excited to provide interested practitioners in democracy education with a first look at the results of the research project “Democracy and Games: Analogue and Digital Game-Based Learning Tools for Youth Work (DEMOGAMES).” The workshop offers insights into the educational tools, methods, and materials developed for the purpose of democracy education in formal and non-formal youth work.

    Game-Based Learning Workshop

In a workshop – held on 2 August 2022 – we aim to introduce practitioners to the game-based learning tools developed in the DEMOGAMES project. The workshop takes place at the GIGA office in Hamburg, Germany, which is nicely located on the famous Binnenalster. It gives an overview of the game-based learning tools developed in the project, allow participants to try out some of the analog and digital games themselves, and provide those taking part with guidance and facilitation tips to implement these tools in their own settings.

    Objectives of the Activity

    • Provide background information on the eight games of the DEMOGAMES project

    • Introduction to game-based learning in democracy education

    • Introduction to the Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture and how they can be trained using the eight games from the Democracy Game Box

    • Inform participants on how to incorporate DEMOGAMES in their own settings

    • Networking among practitioners to exchange ideas on how to use DEMOGAMES

The GIGA is taking the coronavirus situation very seriously. Our events take place in the digital space or in hybrid format. Team GIGA is still working mainly from home. We are pleased to be able to offer you our products without restriction.

Democracy and Games: Analog and Digital Game-Based-Learning Tools for Youth Work (DEMOGAMES)

DEMOGAMES is a Youth in Action project within the Erasmus+ framework. Through the development of several analogue and digital games, the project will advance knowledge transfer in the field of democracy education. Democracy education enables young people to recognize and represent their interests, to participate in political processes and, in doing so, to meet their fellow human beings and their concerns with respect. The project addresses these issues and uses the didactic approach of game-based learning to engage young citizens with respect to learning about, through and for democracy.
