    Iran’s Foreign Policy Making: Consensus Building or Power Struggle?

    This article seeks to identify ways in which the foreign policy power hierarchy inside the Islamic Republic of Iran can be explained. It uses high-level diplomatic meetings as observable evidence in a novel analytical framework to identify the scope of competition and hierarchies in foreign policy decision-making processes. Results reveal that diplomatic activities of key foreign policy decision makers did not noticeably diverge.

    Where Is Iran’s Economy Headed?

    As Iran marks the 43rd anniversary of its Islamic Revolution, popular discontent with the country’s poor economic performance is rising. Even Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, recently complained about rampant inflation and the poor quality of domestic products. For decades, Iranian policymakers have strived to diversify away from oil, build resilience against sanctions and other external shocks, and to become the region’s largest economy. The Atlantic Council Future of Iran held a discussion about the extent to which those goals been achieved and Iran’s prospects for the future.
