Detlef Nolte Reconfirmed as ADLAF President

The Arbeitsgemeinschaft Deutsche Lateinamerikaforschung (German Latin American Studies Association) has elected Prof. Dr. Detlef Nolte for a further two years as president. He is now beginning his third term in this office.

The ADLAF was founded in 1965 and is an interdisciplinary association of research institutes and individual researchers from all disciplines who focus on Latin America. Approximately 30 research institutes and more than 200 academics currently belong to the organization.

The vote took place on 27 June 2014 at the annual general meeting, which was part of the ADLAF’s annual congress. The congress was organized together with the Konrad Adenauer Fondation and entitled "Globalized Natures – Latin American Perspectives" ("Globalisierte Naturen – lateinamerikanischen Perspektiven").

Detlef Nolte is the acting president of the GIGA and a recognized Latin America expert. His research interests include the rise of regional powers such as Brazil and the transformation of political institutions in Latin America.
