  • In his lecture, his Excellency Hugo Martínez, Foreign Minister of El Salvador and Representative of the CELAC Pro Tempore Presidency, will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Peace Agreements, which put an end to more than a decade of Civil War, as a central tool of building El Salvador’s tomorrow. He will provide insight into the latest initiative to foster a culture of peace – the so-called second generation of the Peace Agreements - in the context of regional development, economic progress, social inclusion and reconciliation.

Minister Martínez has always been a strong advocate for regional integration in Central America pushing to advance fundamental issues like democratic security, climate change, social inclusion, and the fight against poverty. Post-conflict societies such as El Salvador face enormous challenges of achieving sustainable peace. Irregular migration raises additional questions in relation to the societal cohesion. We will have the chance to discuss these vital matters and learn more of the current situation in Central America.
