On the GIGA website it says: “Advising is a cross-sectoral responsibility for all GIGA scholars.
[…] The GIGA offers thorough background information for current and strategic decisions, independent assessments of practical policies and new courses of action for decision-makers.”
But what does this mean for doctoral students? How can they become engaged into this field of work?
After an introduction on general structures of policy advice the two-folded seminar will likewise focus on possibilities of policy advice while writing your dissertation and on policy advice as a career path. The seminar will give you an idea on how to get engaged in policy advice and on possible career steps. Which institutions and fields of work are there? How can one establish contacts and which are important contact persons? Which relations does the GIGA offer?
Beside this focus on networking issues the seminar gives concrete instructions e.g. on where to find job advertisements and how to phrase applications. Afterwards there is the possibility for a personal coaching through the lecturer.
