Biographical data:

  • Born in 1957
  • Studies of economics at Christian-Albrechts-University Kiel 1978-1984, Ph.D. in 1992; Habilitation at Helmut-Schmidt-University Hamburg in 2000.
  • Professional career:
Since 1 June 2010: At the GIGA Institute of Asian Studies and the University of Hamburg as Claussen-Simon-Professor of Economics, esp. the economy and innovation in Asia.
1984-2010: Research Fellow at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, with a research focus on economic growth and development.
